The Department of Meteorology says that due to the influence of an easterly wave flow affecting the island, the prevailing showery conditions in the Northern and Eastern provinces are expected to continue over the next few days.
Showers will occur at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some places in the Northern and Eastern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa District.
Showers or thundershowers may also develop at several places in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m., the Department said.
Fairly strong winds of about 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in the Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.
Misty conditions are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
