Parliament Approves Extension of State of Public Emergency With 106 Votes in Favour

The extension of the State of Public Emergency was approved by Parliament of Sri Lanka, with 106 Members voting in favour and two voting against.

The vote was held at the request of Opposition MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam.

Accordingly, 106 votes were cast in support of the motion, while MPs Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam and Selvam Adaikalanathan voted against it.

Speaker Jagath Wickramanayake announced that the resolution under Subject No. 80 of the Public Safety Ordinance was passed with a majority of 104 votes.

Meanwhile, resolutions presented under the Essential Public Services Act were approved unanimously.
