Showers Expected Across Several Provinces Today; Heavy Rain Likely in Some Areas

Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka said showers will occur at times in the Central, Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts today (13).

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely at some places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts.

Several spells of showers are also expected in the Northern Province and in the Anuradhapura district.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop in several other areas after 2.00 p.m., with fairly heavy showers above 50 mm likely at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kalutara, Galle and Matara districts.

Misty conditions can be expected during the early morning hours in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
