Public approval of the government’s performance has climbed to 65%, according to the latest “Mood of the Nation” survey conducted by Verité Research in early February 2026.
With a margin of error of ±3 percentage points, the poll shows the approval rating remaining broadly stable compared to the 62% recorded a year ago, while disapproval levels have stayed unchanged and below those seen in February 2025.
For the first time in the survey’s four-year history, Verité Research reported that the share of respondents rating current economic conditions as “good” or “excellent” has surpassed those who described them as “poor.”
The proportion of people who said the economy is “getting better” has risen to 64%, up from 55% a year earlier.
All economic sentiment indicators are combined into an Economic Confidence Index ranging from minus 100 to plus 100. The index has now stabilised at +36, marking a significant improvement from +14 recorded a year ago.
In addition, 59% of respondents said they are satisfied with “the way things are going” in the country today—crossing the 50% mark for the first time in four years.
Verité Research also noted that, compared to previous administrations, the current government has received its highest positive ratings in areas such as reducing drugs and crime, while also being perceived as making stronger efforts to curb corruption.
The poll was conducted among a nationally representative, multi-stage random sample of 1,048 adults across Sri Lanka between January 24 and February 3, 2026, and carries a maximum sampling error of ±3.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
