Farmers’ Pensions to Be Temporarily Suspended After Six Months of Non-Collection

February 19, 2026

The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has decided to temporarily suspend pension payments to beneficiaries who have failed to collect their farmers’ pensions for more than six consecutive months.

A total of 179,215 farmers currently receive monthly pensions through the Board. In addition, pensions are paid to 6,381 fishermen. Of these, around 6,105 beneficiaries have not collected their payments for over six months.

Authorities said the decision was taken to prevent potential financial irregularities and corruption.

The Ministry of Agriculture Sri Lanka clarified that once it is confirmed the relevant beneficiary is alive, pension payments will resume as normal, including any arrears due.

Members of the public seeking further information are advised to contact the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board via its hotline on 1918.
