Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has raised concerns over the operations of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, saying many of its recent actions are difficult to understand.
Speaking to the media, the MP said the country has suffered the consequences of using dollars brought in by investors and businesspeople for unrestricted vehicle imports.
He noted that this has contributed significantly to the depreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee.
The MP also called on the Central Bank to disclose whether the country earned sufficient revenue from vehicle imports to justify the sharp fall in the value of the rupee, stressing the need for greater transparency and accountability in economic decision-making.
