Weak Import Management Has Collapsed Country’s Gas Network, Says Ravi

February 24, 2026

Former Deputy Minister of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake has attributed the ongoing gas shortage in Sri Lanka to weaknesses in the country’s import and management processes.

Speaking on the issue, he said the islandwide gas distribution network has effectively collapsed due to failures in planning and coordination.

The MP noted that shortcomings in the gas import process have directly contributed to the crisis. He further alleged that certain measures were taken without adhering to proper procedures, resulting in disruptions that have severely affected consumers.

He added that mismanagement within the system has worsened the situation, leaving the public to bear the burden of the ongoing gas shortage.
