Special Mechanism Planned to Repatriate Sri Lankans from Middle East if Crisis Escalates

March 4, 2026

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sri Lanka has announced that a special mechanism has been prepared to repatriate Sri Lankan nationals residing in the Middle East if a high-risk situation arises in the region.

According to the ministry, a coordinated response system has been established in collaboration with Sri Lankan embassies across the Middle East and Gulf region.

Officials stated that all diplomatic missions, together with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), are ready to activate rapid response measures in the event of an emergency to ensure the safety and welfare of Sri Lankan migrant workers.

The mechanism is expected to facilitate timely communication, emergency assistance and, if required, the safe repatriation of Sri Lankans affected by potential security developments in the region.

Authorities have assured that the situation is being closely monitored and that necessary arrangements are in place to support Sri Lankan nationals abroad.
