Program Launched to Ensure Fuel for Container Trucks, Ease Port Congestion

March 21, 2026

The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation has launched a structured program to ensure fuel supply for container trucks, aiming to reduce congestion at the Port of Colombo.

Minister Anura Karunathilake said the initiative is intended to speed up the clearance of imported containers and ensure the timely delivery of export goods, thereby protecting the country’s export revenue.

As part of the program, the ministry has gathered detailed data on container trucks, including QR code registration information, to facilitate efficient fuel distribution.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Container Transport Owners Association, Sanath Manjula, said data for 1,325 container vehicles has already been submitted through the Department of Government Information.

He added that the Minister has agreed to provide the required fuel for these vehicles within the coming week, offering relief to transport operators and helping to streamline port operations.
