March 23, 2026

Sri Lanka Police have issued a clarification regarding a message circulating on social media that has been falsely attributed to the Police.

The message, which urges the public to remain vigilant during the current economic situation, was not issued through any official Police channel, authorities confirmed.

In a statement, the Police emphasized that all verified announcements are released only through the Police Media Division and shared with the media as official press statements.

The public has been advised to rely solely on updates published via the official social media platforms of Sri Lanka Police, including their Facebook page and YouTube channel, for accurate information.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to determine whether the misleading message was deliberately circulated by an individual or an organized group.

Police also urged the public to exercise caution and avoid sharing unverified information on social media platforms.
