Awareness Programme on Smoking Prevention to Be Held on April 1

March 27, 2026

A smoking prevention awareness programme will be conducted on April 1 under the InnerBloom initiative organized by the Rotaract Club of the University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with ADIC.

The programme aims to reduce tobacco use and raise awareness on drug prevention in Sri Lanka.

According to organizers, approximately 50 to 60 people die daily in the country due to smoking, while nearly LKR 52 million is spent each day on cigarettes, highlighting both the health and economic impact.

As part of the initiative, a series of activities will be carried out across all districts, including the display of posters in selected institutions and communities, distribution of greeting cards, and awareness campaigns featuring symbolic messages.

The campaign also draws attention to April 1, linking it with the message that continuing to smoke is an unwise behavior.

Organizers stated that efforts are also being made to expand public awareness through media engagement to strengthen the impact of the programme.
