Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party and MP Ravi Karunanayake has urged the government to take inspiration from Singapore in navigating global economic challenges.
Speaking on the current global situation, the MP noted that conflicts are taking place in many parts of the world, but some countries have successfully turned such crises into opportunities for growth.
He said that while there may be attempts by certain groups to exploit situations for short-term gain, such actions should be discouraged and addressed firmly.
Highlighting Singapore as a strong example, he pointed out that countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia are currently benefiting from the rapid development achieved in the region.
The MP emphasized that Sri Lanka should focus on attracting a share of Middle Eastern investments, particularly directing them towards development projects such as the Port City, in order to strengthen the economy during challenging times.
