Thundershowers Expected Across Island Over Next Few Days

April 2, 2026

The Department of Meteorology says atmospheric conditions are favourable for afternoon thundershowers across most parts of the island over the next few days starting today (April 2).

According to the forecast, showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, North-Western and North-Central provinces after 2:00 p.m.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is expected at some locations in the Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Kurunegala District.

In addition, morning showers may occur in the Southern Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Monaragala districts.

Misty conditions are also expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.

The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
