Six suspects arrested while transporting a large stock of heroin aboard a multi-day fishing vessel are scheduled to be produced before the Aluth Kade No. 1 Court today.
The suspects were taken into custody by the Sri Lanka Navy and later handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau following the interception of the vessel.
Authorities revealed that approximately 323 kilograms of heroin were recovered from the vessel, packed into 298 parcels and concealed across 19 compartments.
Navy Media Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath stated that the seized drugs have an estimated street value of around Rs. 620 million.
The vessel was intercepted in deep waters off the southwest coast of Sri Lanka a day prior to its arrival at the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbour.
Investigations further revealed that the multi-day fishing vessel had originally departed from Negombo on February 2.
The suspects are expected to face legal proceedings as investigations into the drug trafficking operation continue.
