Former UNP Deputy Leader MP Ravi Karunanayake has raised concerns over a possible loss of revenue from airport taxes, calling on the government to disclose key data in Parliament.
He requested detailed figures on total passenger arrivals and departures at Sri Lankan airports for 2023, 2024, and 2025, with separate breakdowns for each airport.
Karunanayake also questioned the total revenue the government expects to receive this year from airport taxes, including embarkation levies.
Highlighting the risk of revenue loss, he sought information on unpaid or defaulted taxes by airlines, including the names of those involved, the amounts owed, and the steps taken by authorities to recover these dues.
In addition, he inquired about the financial impact of delayed payments and drew attention to airport infrastructure, requesting details on the number of operational international and domestic airports in Sri Lanka, along with their annual passenger handling capacity.
