Cabinet approval has been granted to introduce a fuel subsidy for the fishing community, the Ministry of Fisheries announced.
Under the scheme, small fishing vessels will receive fuel at a subsidised rate of Rs. 50 per litre, with a daily allocation of 25 litres.
The subsidy will be provided for up to 25 days per month for each small fishing vessel.
Meanwhile, multi-day fishing vessels will be granted a subsidy of Rs. 150,000 per voyage.
The Ministry stated that the new subsidy mechanism will come into effect from the 20th of this month.
