Sri Lanka Cricket Refutes Claims of Players Failing Fitness Tests

April 8, 2026

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has dismissed reports claiming that 19 national cricketers failed physical performance tests, stating that the information is false and unfounded.

In an official statement, SLC said the report, broadcast on a television channel on April 3, was published without proper verification and has caused reputational damage to the board, its players, and the sport.

SLC clarified that several key players, including Akila Dananjaya, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Udara, Maheesh Theekshana and Prabath Jayasuriya, have successfully completed their fitness assessments conducted between February and April 2026 as part of the quarterly review process.

The board also noted that players such as Matheesha Pathirana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Binura Fernando and Lahiru Kumara are yet to undergo their scheduled fitness tests.

Meanwhile, senior batsman Dinesh Chandimal welcomed the correction issued by the media outlet and called for an investigation into the spread of false information.

He emphasized his continued commitment to maintaining fitness standards and prioritizing national duty, stating that representing Sri Lanka is both a privilege and a responsibility.

Chandimal also expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of fans, affirming that the team remains dedicated to giving their best on behalf of the country.
