April 12, 2026

Showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, North-Western and Uva provinces, as well as in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts after 1:00 p.m., the Department of Meteorology said.

Morning showers may also occur in parts of the Southern Province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Monaragala districts.

Fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm is likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, along with the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Mainly dry weather is expected to prevail across the rest of the island.

Misty conditions can be expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts during the early morning hours.

The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Meanwhile, due to the sun’s apparent northward movement, it will be directly overhead Sri Lanka between April 5 and April 15. Today (12), areas such as Cheddikulam, Kebithigollewa, Gomarankadawala and Nilaveli will experience overhead sun conditions at around 12:11 p.m.
