The Sri Lankan rupee has depreciated by 1.8% against the US dollar in 2026, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
CBSL data shows that the buying rate of the US dollar stood at Rs. 311.79, while the selling rate reached Rs. 319.26 at the close of trading yesterday (10).
The Central Bank stated that the depreciation reflects growing external sector pressures following the escalation of the Middle East conflict in late February 2026.
Officials noted that global uncertainties and market conditions have contributed to the weakening of the rupee against the US dollar.
