Police Step Up Action Against Reckless Driving on Expressways

April 12, 2026

Police say investigations are underway to identify motorists engaging in high-speed and dangerous driving on expressways.

Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, stated that CCTV cameras are being used to track offending vehicles, while officers have also been deployed near expressway entry points.

He noted that a special programme is currently in operation to reduce traffic congestion as people travel to their hometowns during the festive season.

The DIG emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against reckless drivers and urged both motorists and pedestrians to act responsibly to prevent accidents.

Meanwhile, Police have also introduced a dedicated WhatsApp number, 070 4755600, for the public to submit video evidence of traffic violations.
