NBRO Introduces Priority-Based Compensation Scheme for Cyclone-Affected Properties

April 14, 2026

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has introduced a special programme to provide compensation for houses and business properties damaged by Cyclone Ditwah.

Under the new system, affected areas are classified into three risk categories: high-risk, medium-risk, and low-risk.

Properties identified within high-risk zones are further divided into Priority 1, Priority 2, and Priority 3, with compensation payments to be issued based on this priority ranking.

The NBRO stated that although all residents in high-risk areas are being resettled, the prioritisation system has been introduced to ensure the efficient allocation of government funds.

Affected individuals can check their assigned priority level through their respective Divisional Secretariat offices.

Authorities also noted that even if damage assessments are carried out at the same time, compensation will still be released according to the priority order.

As a result, some individuals may receive financial assistance earlier than others, even within the same area, depending on their assigned priority level.
