Police Warn New Year Event Organizers to Follow Traffic Laws

Deputy Inspector General of Police for Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, has instructed organizers of New Year festivals to strictly comply with existing laws when conducting events, including bicycle races.

He stated that authorities are closely monitoring whether organizers and supporters of such events are violating traffic regulations.

DIG Senadheera also revealed that around 23 complaints have been received so far via the recently introduced WhatsApp hotline for reporting traffic violations.

Out of these, legal action has already been initiated against 12 individuals, he added.
