Special transport services are being operated throughout the weekend to facilitate the return of people travelling back to Colombo after the New Year holidays.
The National Transport Commission (NTC) said additional bus services will be deployed, especially on expressways, in anticipation of a large influx of passengers over the weekend and on Monday.
NTC Director General Nilan Miranda stated that special buses will operate from key areas including Moneragala, Embilipitiya, Badulla, Bandarawela and Nuwara Eliya.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Railways announced that several special train services have also been arranged for returning commuters.
These trains will run today and tomorrow from Anuradhapura, Kankesanthurai, Matara and Beliatta towards Colombo to accommodate increased passenger demand.
