The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has announced that Sri Lanka’s GDP per capita has exceeded the $5,000 mark for the first time in the country’s history.
The milestone was revealed in the Annual Economic Review for 2025, which shows GDP per capita reaching $5,003.
According to the report, the figure reflects a notable increase from $4,546 recorded in 2024, marking an annual rise of $457.
Previously, the highest GDP per capita was recorded in 2018 at $4,372.
The latest achievement represents a significant turnaround from 2022, when Sri Lanka faced a severe economic crisis and was declared bankrupt. During that period, GDP per capita dropped to $3,464.
The current figure signals a strong recovery in the country’s economic performance following the downturn.
