The Department of Motor Traffic Sri Lanka has announced that standard registration number plates for new vehicles will be issued from the end of May this year.
The update was provided when officials from the department appeared before the Committee on Public Finance Sri Lanka (CoPF).
The department also revealed plans to introduce a new system that will allow vehicle owners to obtain personalised number plates displaying their names.
Meanwhile, CoPF Chairman Harsha de Silva noted that the earlier system of including provincial identifiers on vehicle number plates has now been discontinued.
