The Sri Lanka Police has arrested three suspects in connection with the sale of a two-year-old girl for Rs. 40,000, according to the Dharmapuram Police Headquarters.
Police said the child’s mother, her common-law partner, and a woman who allegedly purchased the child have been taken into custody. The child has since been located and is now under the care of authorities. A mobile phone, reportedly purchased for Rs. 15,000 using the money from the transaction, has also been seized.
Investigations revealed that the mother had sold her daughter to a woman in the Colombo area, allegedly under the influence of her partner. The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by the Dharmapuram Grama Niladhari.
Further investigations are underway.
