The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to regularise 9,800 individuals currently employed in the public sector by offering them permanent appointments.
The proposal was put forward by Anura Kumara Dissanayake as part of recent budget recommendations, aimed at providing job security to employees serving on temporary, casual, substitute, contract, or relief bases.
The decision applies to workers across the Public Service, Provincial Public Service, State Corporations, Statutory Boards, and other government institutions.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved a joint proposal by the President and the Ministry of Public Administration Provincial Councils and Local Government Sri Lanka to issue a circular outlining the provisions required to grant these permanent appointments.
The move is expected to strengthen workforce stability and improve service delivery within the public sector.
