Ravi: Fewer Disruptions as Opposition Avoids Protests, Urges Gov’t to Deliver Promises

April 18, 2026

Former Deputy Leader of the United National Party, MP Ravi Karunanayake, says the country is currently facing fewer disruptions as the opposition has chosen not to engage in street protests.

Speaking to the media, Karunanayake stressed that political parties should focus on fulfilling the promises made to the public rather than misleading voters after coming to power.

He said it is inappropriate to present an overly optimistic picture to the people during campaigns and then fail to deliver once elected.

The MP added that the opposition is aware of the current economic and social challenges and has therefore refrained from organising demonstrations or protest campaigns.

According to him, this approach has helped prevent further instability at a time when the country is already dealing with significant difficulties.
