Fuel Prices May Increase Slightly Due to Middle East Crisis – President

May 2, 2026

Anura Kumara Dissanayake has indicated that fuel prices in Sri Lanka could see a slight increase in the near future due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking on the matter, the President said the government has already provided the maximum possible relief to the public under current circumstances, but warned that a “small increase” in fuel prices may become necessary.

However, he did not specify when such a revision would be implemented.

The remarks come after the expected end-of-month fuel price revision on April 30 did not take place, prompting speculation over a possible adjustment in the coming days.

The Middle East conflict has contributed to rising global oil prices and increased pressure on fuel-importing countries, including Sri Lanka.
