Mahindananda Aluthgamage Foundation Property Handed Over to Railway Department

May 3, 2026

All movable and immovable properties belonging to the Mahindananda Aluthgamage Foundation, which had been operating on a lease basis for more than 20 years, were officially handed over to the Railway Department this morning (02).

Foundation Secretary Chamika Dharmathilaka stated that they were informed the lease had been revoked on the grounds that the agreement was violated by granting permission to conduct a Seela meditation programme on the foundation premises.

Authorities have pointed out that allowing the land to be used for the “Sadaham Muruwa” almsgiving programme organised by Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero on behalf of the Nawalapitiya Youth Buddhist Association constituted a breach of the lease agreement.

During the District Coordination Committee meeting held last December, Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena and Member of Parliament Thushari Jayasinghe had instructed the relevant officials to take over the property within a month.
