June 6, 2026

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, according to the Department of Meteorology.

The Department stated that heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely at certain locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya.

A few showers are also expected in the Anuradhapura District.

Meanwhile, strong winds with speeds of around 40–50 kmph may occur at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, Northern and North-Central provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

Fairly strong winds of around 30–40 kmph are expected in other parts of the island.

The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall associated with thundershowers.

Residents in vulnerable areas have also been advised to remain alert for possible weather-related disruptions during the period.
