Nearly 2,000 Doctors to Be Recruited for Internship Training in August

June 9, 2026

The Ministry of Health has announced plans to recruit nearly 2,000 medical graduates for internship training in August as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare workforce.

Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni stated that the intake will include graduates who have completed their medical degrees both locally and overseas.

According to the Deputy Minister, students who obtained their medical qualifications from foreign universities will also be accommodated in the upcoming recruitment process.

He noted that the initiative is expected to help address the current shortage of doctors in the public health sector and enhance the availability of medical services across the country.

The Ministry of Health has been taking a series of measures to strengthen the healthcare system, including the recruitment of new medical and nursing personnel to meet growing service demands.

Officials say the addition of nearly 2,000 intern doctors will provide much-needed support to hospitals and healthcare institutions while ensuring the continued training and development of the next generation of medical professionals.
