Former United National Party Deputy Leader and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has called on the Government to extend fuel concessions to three-wheeler operators and the tourism industry after lifting fuel restrictions imposed on government officials.
Raising the issue in Parliament, Karunanayake questioned Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on why similar relief could not be provided to sectors that he said were more deserving of such support.
“Yesterday, the fuel restrictions imposed on government officials were removed. Why can’t the same concession be extended to three-wheelers and the tourism industry?” the MP asked.
Responding to the question, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said she would look into the matter and provide a response at a later stage.
