Former United National Party Deputy Leader and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has called on the media to seek the public’s views on whether the Government has delivered on its promises to improve living standards.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake said journalists should ask the people directly whether the challenges they face have been resolved under the current administration.
He also urged the media to assess whether the Government’s pledge to create “a prosperous country and a beautiful life” has translated into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
Karunanayake further said the media should examine whether adequate assistance has been provided to those affected by recent disasters, including whether families who lost their homes received the relief that had been promised.
He added that attention should also be given to whether sufficient measures have been taken to prevent similar hardships in flood-prone areas in the future.
Karunanayake said it is the responsibility of the media to evaluate whether the Government’s commitments have resulted in meaningful improvements for the people.
