Former United National Party Deputy Leader and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has questioned how Sri Lanka intends to manage its economy after the current International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme reaches its next phase later this year.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake said the Government must clearly explain its economic strategy beyond December and outline how it plans to sustain the country’s recovery.
He questioned whether the Government intends to continue with the framework agreed under the IMF programme or introduce a distinct economic model tailored to Sri Lanka’s needs.
Karunanayake also referred to the economic reforms initiated during former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s administration in collaboration with the IMF, asking whether the current Government plans to continue that approach or pursue a different path.
He said the public deserves clarity on whether a new economic strategy, aligned with the Government’s vision of creating “A Rich Country – A Beautiful Life,” will be introduced from January onward.
