Former United National Party Deputy Leader and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has warned that the escalating crisis in the Middle East could lead to higher fuel prices and create additional economic challenges for Sri Lanka.
Speaking to the media, Karunanayake said the conflict involving Iran has caused significant fluctuations in global oil prices, affecting energy markets around the world.
He noted that the volatility in international oil prices has disrupted fuel procurement and created uncertainty for countries that rely on imported petroleum.
Karunanayake also raised concerns about the potential impact on Sri Lanka, questioning whether the Government would revise domestic fuel prices in response to rising international crude oil prices.
He stressed that the authorities should closely monitor developments in the global energy market and take timely measures to minimise the impact on the country’s economy and the public.
