Ravi Karunanayake Calls for People-Centred Economic Solutions

July 28, 2026

Former United National Party Deputy Leader and Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake has urged the Government to adopt more people-centred economic policies rather than focusing solely on fiscal and macroeconomic targets.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, Karunanayake said economic policies should deliver practical benefits to the public and address the day-to-day challenges faced by ordinary citizens.

He also called on the Government to provide a clear and immediate response to concerns over paddy prices, stressing that policy decisions should reflect market demand and supply while ensuring fair returns for farmers.

Karunanayake said the Government should strike a balance between protecting the interests of paddy farmers and ensuring affordable prices for consumers.

He emphasized that economic recovery should be measured not only by macroeconomic indicators but also by improvements in the livelihoods and well-being of the people.
