The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Advisory for strong winds and very rough sea conditions affecting sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
The advisory, issued today (04), will remain in effect until 10.00 a.m. tomorrow (05).
According to the Department, sea areas off the coasts stretching from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota are expected to be very rough at times, with very strong gusty winds of 60–70 km/h.
The Department has strongly advised naval and fishing communities not to venture into these sea areas until further notice due to the hazardous conditions.
Those already engaged in fishing or other marine activities have been urged to exercise extreme caution and closely monitor future weather forecasts and advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology.
