The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) says it has purchased approximately 15,000 metric tonnes of paddy so far during the current Yala cultivation season.
PMB Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda said the Board has opened 90 paddy purchasing centres across the country to facilitate the procurement process.
According to the Chairman, the purchasing centres have been established as follows:
- Ampara – 28 centres
- Anuradhapura – 18 centres
- Monaragala – 10 centres
- Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi – 10 centres
- Polonnaruwa – 6 centres
The PMB said the expanded network is intended to ensure the efficient purchase of paddy from farmers during the ongoing Yala harvesting season.
