The Government of India has donated a 500-litre consignment of Technical Malathion insecticide to Sri Lanka to support the country’s efforts to combat the growing dengue outbreak.
The consignment was officially handed over by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha to Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa today (04).
According to the Indian High Commission, the insecticide, manufactured by UPL Limited of India, was delivered to Colombo within two weeks of Sri Lanka’s request, highlighting India’s rapid response to the country’s urgent public health needs.
The High Commission said the donation reaffirms India’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka during emergencies and times of crisis.
Sri Lanka has reported nearly 86,000 dengue cases so far in 2026, with the Western Province recording the highest number of infections.
The donated Malathion insecticide will be used by health authorities for fumigation and vector control operations across the country as part of ongoing efforts to curb the spread of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
