India has handed over a third consignment of Bailey bridges to Sri Lanka to support the reconstruction of rural roads severely damaged by Cyclone Ditwah.
The High Commission of India in Sri Lanka said the latest consignment, weighing more than 250 metric tonnes, was handed over on August 8 as part of India’s USD 450 million post-disaster reconstruction package.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the latest donation includes five modular Bailey bridges valued at more than USD 5 million, following two previous consignments provided by India.
The Indian High Commission said Indian Army engineers will assist local authorities in assembling and installing the bridges in affected areas across the country.
The bridges are expected to help restore essential road connectivity and strengthen critical infrastructure damaged by the cyclone.
