The Department of Prisons says security provided by the Police Special Task Force (STF), Police and the three armed forces remains in place at all prisons across the country.
The Department said security arrangements are being continuously maintained to ensure the safety and stability of the prison system.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath said investigations are underway to determine whether various groups were involved in the recent clashes reported at several prisons.
The Deputy Minister said authorities have raised concerns after relatives of inmates were reportedly seen near prisons when some of the clashes broke out, prompting investigations into whether the incidents were part of an organised effort.
Authorities are also examining whether there were attempts to gain control or influence within the prison system.
Senarath referred to a statement allegedly made by former minister Johnston Fernando at a meeting, claiming that MP Namal Rajapaksa has significant influence within the prison system.
The Deputy Minister said recent developments have raised concerns that there may be attempts to gain control or exert influence over prisons.
He added that, under the direction of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, a coordinated security mechanism involving all security forces has been established to provide security coverage across all 33 prisons and take necessary action when required.
