Career diplomat Eric Meyer has been officially sworn in as the next United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka during a ceremony held at the US Department of State in Washington, D.C.
The oath of office was administered by Deputy Secretary of State Landau, formally marking the beginning of Meyer’s tenure before he assumes his diplomatic post in Colombo.
Meyer is a distinguished Senior Foreign Service Officer with extensive experience in South and Central Asian affairs. He most recently served as the Senior Bureau Official for the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, where he played a key role in shaping US regional policy and engagement.
Following the ceremony, the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs congratulated Meyer and highlighted his extensive regional experience, while wishing him success in his new role in Sri Lanka.
The US Embassy in Sri Lanka also welcomed Meyer’s appointment and expressed its readiness to work under his leadership to further strengthen bilateral relations between the United States and Sri Lanka.
The Embassy said it remains committed to expanding cooperation between the two countries and advancing shared interests and strategic priorities.
