The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for strong winds and rough seas in sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The advisory will remain in effect until 10.30 a.m. tomorrow (20).
The affected sea areas are expected to be rough at times, with strong gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph.
Wave heights could increase to around 2.5–3.0 metres in sea areas extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara.
The Department also warned that seawater inundation could occur in some near-shore areas.
Naval personnel and fishing communities engaged in activities in the affected sea areas have been advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
