Exam Officials Suspended for Allegedly Consuming Alcohol While on Duty

Steps have been taken to suspend the examination duties of an invigilator and an assistant coordinating officer who were allegedly found to have consumed alcohol while on duty at a G.C.E. Advanced Level examination centre in the Medirigiriya area.

North Central Provincial Education Director S. M. W. Samarakoon said the two officials are a principal and a teacher from a school in the Hingurakgoda Education Zone.

Following information received by the Department of Examinations, a team of officials conducted a surprise inspection at the examination centre.

The examination duties of the relevant invigilator and assistant coordinating officer were suspended with immediate effect following the inspection, the Director said.

He added that strict disciplinary action will be taken against the two officials after the preliminary investigations currently underway are completed.
