The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) says the risk to water quality in the Kelani River around the right bank and Ambatale water treatment plant intakes has been resolved with the assistance of the Tri-Forces.
Laboratory tests were conducted to assess the water quality required for the resumption of the water supply, following recommendations issued by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
The NWSDB said the test results confirmed that the water meets the required quality standards, allowing steps to be taken to resume water distribution.
Water supply to areas surrounding the affected treatment plants is expected to return to normal within the next few hours.
However, the full restoration of water supply to areas including Battaramulla, Kotte, Pamankada and Nugegoda may take longer.
The NWSDB requested the public to cooperate with the measures being taken to protect consumers’ health and safety.
