Ravi Karunanayake Warns of Inflation Risk, Calls for Immediate Monetary Policy Revision

September 6, 2026

Former UNP Deputy Leader and former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake has warned that Sri Lanka could face a serious economic crisis unless the government revises its monetary policy immediately.

In a letter to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, he raised concerns over slowing economic growth, declining purchasing power and the prevailing inflationary situation. He said the country’s economic recovery remains more fragile than official data suggests.

Karunanayake warned that Sri Lanka could face inflation without a corresponding increase in demand, describing it as a dangerous economic situation that requires urgent policy action.
