The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has risen to 96,040, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
In a statement, the NDCU said that 10,155 dengue cases were recorded in August alone.
A total of 72 dengue-related deaths have been reported across the country so far this year.
The Western Province has recorded the highest number of cases, with 50,760 infections, followed by the Southern Province with 13,931 cases, the Central Province with 8,788 cases, and Sabaragamuwa Province with 7,910 cases.
At district level, Gampaha has reported the highest number of dengue cases at 20,444, followed by Colombo with 19,008 cases, Kandy with 7,043, Kalutara with 6,181, and Matara with 6,154 cases.
The NDCU further stated that 50 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas across the island continue to be classified as high-risk areas for dengue, highlighting the need for continued preventive measures and public vigilance.
