Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts, after 2.00 p.m. today (06), the Department of Meteorology said.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in some areas of the Uva and Eastern provinces.
A few showers are also expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts, according to the Meteorological Department.
The general public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, due to the Sun’s apparent southward movement, it will be directly overhead at latitudes close to Sri Lanka from August 28 to September 07.
Today, the Sun is expected to be directly overhead at approximately 12:08 p.m. in Bentota, Thiniyawala, Iththakanda, Udawalawe and Kataragama, the Department said.
