Amber Alert Issued for Severe Lightning in Several Areas

The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for severe lightning activity in the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as the Mullaittivu and Polonnaruwa districts.

The advisory was issued at 11.00 a.m. today (18) and will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m.

According to the Department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several locations in the affected areas.

Temporary localized strong winds may also occur during thundershowers, the Department warned.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize potential damage and risks associated with lightning activity.
